Introduction

An Alim Course at Darul Uloom Newcastle is a comprehensive Islamic educational program designed to produce scholars well-versed in various disciplines of Islamic knowledge. The curriculum encompasses a wide range of subjects, including Hadith, Tafseer (Quranic exegesis), Principles of Hadith, Principles of Qur’an, Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and Arabic language.

In the Hadith component of the course, students delve into the study of hadith literature, focusing on Mishkaath-al-Masaabih in Part 1. This involves an in-depth exploration of the sayings, actions, and approvals of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as compiled by various scholars.

The Tafseer portion involves studying Jalalayn, a renowned classical commentary on the Quran, providing students with insights into the interpretation and understanding of the Holy Book.

Principles of Hadith (Musthalah-al-Hadith) and Principles of Qur’an (Uloom-al-Qur’an) form crucial elements of the curriculum, imparting knowledge on the methodologies and principles behind the compilation and authentication of hadiths and the understanding of the Quran.

The Fiqh segment involves the study of Al Hidaayah and Mughnee-al-Muhtaaj, both influential works in Islamic jurisprudence, covering various aspects of legal and ethical guidance in the context of Islamic law.

To enhance linguistic proficiency, an Arabic Reader titled Mukhthaaraat is included in the curriculum, enabling students to read and understand Arabic texts with ease.

The course places a strong emphasis on studying significant Islamic books in their entirety, with a focus on the following texts:
– Sahih al Bukhari
– Sahih Muslim
– Sunan Abu Dawood
– Jami’ al Tirmidhi
– Sunan Ibn Majah (certain chapters)
– Muwatta Imam Malik (certain chapters)
– Sunan an Nasai (certain chapters)

Requirements

  • The applicant must not be less than 15 years old
  • He must be able to recite the Holy Qur’an fluently
  • He must be well acquainted with the English language or should have successfully passed standard 8 or the equivalent thereof
  • If he is not well acquainted with English, he should be well acquainted with Arabic
  • A certified copy of the school report is required
  • A testimonial from his former school and madrassah is required
  • A medical certificate is also required
